Last updated: August 2026 — this policy applies to the iOS and Apple Watch app Tide only. The website has its own privacy policy; so do the other apps, Interim and Neuron.

Tide is a self-contained app with no user account and no registration. Everything you record in the app is stored exclusively on your own devices.
The app contains no code for network connections, no analytics or tracking libraries, no advertising networks and no third-party libraries. There is no server of ours that data could be sent to.
It follows that we receive no personal data from your use of Tide. To that extent no processing by us takes place; the data remains in your hands and under your control.
Your drink entries with the time they were logged, the containers you have created yourself, your daily target, your weekly and monthly history and your settings.
This information is kept in a shared app container on your device so that widgets and the Apple Watch app can display the same values. The container is managed by iOS and does not leave your devices.
Tide exchanges only the “Water” value with Apple Health (found in Health under Nutrition → Water). No other health data is involved.
You choose between three settings yourself: off, write only, or read and write. When writing, the amounts you log in Tide are transferred to Health; when reading, amounts recorded there by other apps are taken into account so that a drink is not counted twice. If you delete an entry in Tide, the corresponding record in Health is deleted as well.
Access only takes effect once you explicitly confirm it in the iOS dialogue. The legal basis is your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and, because health data is involved, additionally Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time in the iOS Settings under Privacy & Security → Health. All of this happens on your device; we have no access to the data. Without the permission the app works in full, only without the Health exchange.
If you would like them, Tide reminds you to drink within a time window and at an interval you choose; you can log an amount straight from the notification. The reminders are scheduled locally on your device; there are no push servers and no device identifiers that would be transmitted to us. The legal basis is your consent given through the iOS dialogue (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time in the iOS Settings.
Tide comes with an Apple Watch app that has widgets of its own. iPhone and watch synchronise their data through the mechanisms Apple provides for that purpose — not through any server of ours. Here too the data does not leave the group of your own devices.
Tide includes an optional tipping feature. Payment is handled exclusively by Apple; we receive neither your payment details nor your name, only aggregated sales reports from Apple that contain no personal reference.
Apple is responsible for download, purchase and billing in the App Store. If you use your device's iCloud backup, it may also cover app data; Apple's privacy policy applies to that. We have access to neither.
If you remove Tide from your devices, the associated local data is removed with it. Amounts that Tide has previously written to Apple Health remain in Health and can be deleted there in the Health app.
You are reading this page over the internet. It is hosted by Vercel Inc., 340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA, and server log files are created in the process (IP address, time of access, page requested, volume of data transferred, referrer, browser, operating system). The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with Vercel; the transfer to the USA is based on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses and on Vercel's certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The website privacy policy sets this out in full.
Automated decision-making, including profiling (Art. 22 GDPR), does not take place. You are under no statutory or contractual obligation to provide us with personal data. The only recipients of data are our hosting provider Vercel as a processor and — for downloads and tips — Apple as a separate controller.
You have the right of access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR). Consent you have given — for notifications or Health access, for example — can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future in the iOS Settings. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is: Der Landesbeauftragte für den Datenschutz Niedersachsen (State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony), Prinzenstraße 5, 30159 Hannover, Germany, www.lfd.niedersachsen.de.
Right to object: where we process data on the basis of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, you may object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21 GDPR).
For any request concerning your rights, please write to app@goswami.de.
We update this policy when the app or the legal situation changes. The version published here is the one that applies.
